Diversity & Inclusion

Arnstein & Lehr considers the promotion of diversity and inclusion in the workplace as one of its fundamental missions.

We strive to:

  • Create a sense of belonging for each team member in the firm;
  • Ensure that each member feels he or she is respected and valued;
  • Maintain a level of supportive energy and commitment so that everyone can do their best work;
  • Engender an environment free of workplace harassment or discrimination of any kind.

As a firm, we are committed to fostering a work location that gives every person the opportunity to contribute fully to the firm and its business goals, regardless of race, culture, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity.

We cultivate a rich, dynamic workplace in which every member of the firm is uniquely valued and treated with professionalism and respect. We strive daily to keep all employees free from discrimination and harassment of any form, while fostering an environment that is both inclusive and inherently fair.

In our further commitment to diversity and inclusion, Arnstein & Lehr recently hosted the 2nd Annual Celebration of Diversity mixer. The evening reception provided an opportunity for people interested in diversity in the legal profession to network and socialize. Our Committee on Diversity and Inclusion

Led by partner Robert Cichocki, our Committee on Diversity and Inclusion oversees diversity initiatives and promotes an inclusive, positive and supportive work environment. We celebrate diversity by bringing together legal professionals and law students through a variety of events with either firm sponsorship or our individual lawyer involvement. Visit our Events page to see more photos from the diversity committee’s past receptions.

Among the activities our lawyers support and regularly participate in are:

  • Advisory Board of the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession
  • American Bar Association’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity
  • Minority Corporate Counsel Association
  • National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms
  • Illinois State Bar Association’s Diversity Leadership Council
  • Illinois State Bar Association’s Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
  • Chicago Bar Association’s Committee on LGBT Rights
  • Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms

We are also involved in a number of charitable groups in the markets where we have offices. On a monthly basis in the Chicago office, we sponsor Denim Day that benefits a different charity each month. Everyone in the firm is able to participate in such events, and the charities which receive our donations change monthly. Among them are Spark Foundation, Lambda Legal Foundation, Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois, Lincoln Park Community Shelter, Envision Unlimited, Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network, and the American Cancer Society.

We also support:

  • Just the Beginning Foundation, a multi-racial organization composed of lawyers, judges, educators and others in the legal industry who nurture interest in the law among young people from various backgrounds in Chicago.
  • Frederic Chopin Elementary School, a Chicago public school that focuses on science, technology and the arts.
  • Chicago Bar Foundation, which has as its mission equal access to justice for all in the city of Chicago and its surrounding area.
  • About Face Theatre, which supports the production of innovative plays to advance the national dialogue on gender and sexual identity.

In Miami, our office participates annually in the Kozyak Minority Mentoring Foundation as a sponsor for its picnic for minority law students. Law firms of all sizes, accounting firms and other businesses have been involved in this effort for more than a decade.

Arnstein & Lehr LLP was one of the original signers of the Chicago Bar Association’s Commitment to Diversity, which was created in 2006. We also have signed the “Statement of Principle” for the Equal Opportunities Law Section of The Florida Bar, which signifies our pledge to create an atmosphere of acceptance and diversity in the workplace.

The commitment continues throughout our firm, and we are proud to maintain the focus on diversity and inclusion in our legal community.
