Michael A. Abramson
Partner
Michael A. Abramson, partner with Arnstein & Lehr, is a
former Illinois State Representative and chairman of the
Illinois House Public Utilities Committee. Utilizing his
extensive experience in government, regulatory, corporate
and transportation law, Mr. Abramson has developed a diverse
practice area in real estate, business transactions,
closely-held corporation law and fiduciary administration.
His clientele includes entrepreneurs whom he has guided from
the initial business concept, from inception and through
their growth into multimillion-dollar operations. He serves
as outside general counsel to many businesses who rely on
his expertise to resolve a broad range of issues that arise
during day-to-day operations including banking, insurance,
contractual, employee and union matters, asset protection
strategies, mergers, acquisitions and sales.
His clients include major food manufacturers and
distributors, financial institutions, trucking companies,
real estate developers, employee leasing companies and
computer consultants.
Mr. Abramson is well versed in all aspects of transportation
law and he has devoted much of his career to the
representation of clients in all areas of the transportation
industry, including motor carrier, brokers, shippers, and
intermediaries.
He has been successful in the coordination and supervision
of national and international legal efforts on behalf of his
clients. He has obtained favorable results in the
negotiation and administration of collective bargaining
agreements, freight claims and collection matters
representing trucking companies and their insurance carriers
with disputes involving commercial transportation accidents,
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Illinois
Commerce Commission and commercial insurance coverage
disputes.
In addition to his extensive general business and
transaction practices representing privately held and
publicly owned companies, Mr. Abramson has substantial
experience working with closely held corporations and
successfully resolving disputes arising among the
shareholders.
Professional Activities and Achievements
Mr. Abramson served in the Illinois General Assembly from
1976 to 1983 as a State Representative from the north side
of Chicago. During a portion of that time, he chaired the
Illinois House Public Utilities Committee. He is a member of
the Illinois State Bar Association and its Sections on Real
Estate and Taxation Law and a member of the Transportation
Lawyers Association and its Freight Claims Committee.
