Richard C. Gering
Partner

Mr. Gering joined Arnstein & Lehr in 1977 after graduating from Northwestern University School of Law. He devotes a large portion of his practice to defending health care providers against professional liability claims. He also regularly handles other personal injury cases, trust litigation, and complex business disputes. He has been instrumental in securing significant appellate victories, including the only Illinois case where a court required a malpractice claimant to submit to a sedated MRI exam, and the affirmance of a directed verdict in a $132 million lost profits claim brought by a disappointed suitor in a corporate divestiture. He also has substantial experience in the arbitration area, having served for five years as an arbitrator in Cook County Circuit Court. He is past chair of the American Bar Association Litigation Section's Subcommittee on Medical Liability Litigation. He currently chairs Arnstein & Lehr's Pro Bono Committee, devoting a portion of his time to representing indigent clients through Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation, where he also presents civil litigation seminars and serves as a consultant to other volunteer attorneys.
