Laura
L. Lau Marinelli
Associate
Ms. Lau Marinelli is an associate in the Litigation group of Arnstein & Lehr. She is practicing in the areas of
commercial, employment, and tort litigation. In the
commercial litigation area, Ms. Lau has experience defending
consumer credit companies in actions under the
Truth-in-Lending Act and other consumer finance statutes.
She also has successfully been defending major manufacturers
and distributors of products in proceedings involving
procedural aspects of their products liability claims. She
has assisted one of the country's major vehicle rental
companies in establishing procedures for its customers which
comply with applicable laws and also has been involved in
handling insurance regulatory matters. In the employment
area, she is working on a guide on the "Top 10 Mistakes
Employers Make in Hiring and Firing," which discusses ways
employers could make hiring and firing decisions in order to
avoid liability under the age discrimination and other
anti-discrimination laws, Americans with Disabilities Act,
and other employment statutes, and includes recommendations
on the handling of termination reviews and disciplining of
employees. Ms. Lau Marinelli joined the firm in 2003 after graduating
from law school and successfully completing the Firm's
Summer Associate Program during the Summer of 2002.
Professional Activities and Achievements
While in law school, Ms. Lau Marinelli was a member and Moot Court
Coach of the Women Law Students' Association and worked as a
legal intern for the Legal Assistance to Institutionalized
Persons Project through the University of Wisconsin. She
was also a member of the University of Wisconsin Moot Court, a finalist in the Heffernan Moot Competition,
and a
top Best Oral Advocate in the Pepperdine Law School
Entertainment Law Competition.
