Edward A. Snyder
Partner

Mr. Snyder is a partner of Arnstein & Lehr, concentrating in the area of taxation. He has substantial experience handling a broad range of general corporate tax matters, as well as partnerships, limited liability companies, individual tax matters, tax-exempt organizations, tax-exempt financing, international tax matters, qualified employee benefit plans, and executive benefits. He also represents clients with tax audits, protests and litigation, and criminal tax proceedings. In addition, Mr. Snyder advises clients regarding various state and local tax matters.

Professional Activities and Achievements

He is a member of the American Bar Association’s Tax Section and former Chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s Federal Taxation Committee; former Chair of the CBA’s Division B (Partnerships, Real Estate and Other Tax Sheltered Investments); and a member of the CBA’s Federal Taxation Executive Committee and the CBA’s State and Local Taxation Committee. Captain U.S. Air Force (1967-71).


Mr. Snyder has been appointed to the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) Processing Advisory Board to advise the IDOR on matters concerning tax return/report format, processing and related matters.

Recent Publications

Mr. Snyder has served as a guest lecturer on International Tax Research at Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is the author of “Offshore Commodity Investment Corporation,” published in Tax Management Memorandum; “S Corporation: Some of Those Traps for the Unwary,” published in the CBA Record, the co-author of “The Employee Benefit Plan Fiduciary--Responsibilities, Standards and Liabilities,” for an employee benefits seminar, coauthor of “Planning Ahead is One Way to Prepare for an IRS Audit,” published in Profit Sharing, and co-author of Chicago Bar Association Lawyers’ Guide to the Chicago Job Market (Taxation) and, Co-author of “Solos and Small-Firmers: The IRS Is Knocking,” in Lexis One. Mr. Snyder has presented Chicago Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Seminars on Illinois Tax Hearing Procedures, the use of a regular corporation for a small business, and debt and interest tax issues in complicated business transactions. He also gave a presentation to the Independent Accountants Association for Illinois on Current Tax Issues for Limited Partnerships, Limited Liability Partnerships, Limited Liability Companies, and S Corporations and spoke on Illinois Tax-Exempt Organizations at a Continuing Professional Education Seminar sponsored by Lorman Education Services.
