Arnstein & Lehr to host 2008 Woman of Vision Award Luncheon

Marsha Serlin, president and founder of United Scrap Metal, Inc., will receive the Arnstein & Lehr LLP 2008 Woman of Vision Award at a luncheon for women business leaders on July 17, 2008.  

In 1978 necessity forced Marsha to build her own scrap metal company from the ground up.  Thirty years later United Scrap has grown to become one of the industry’s premier companies, and she leads a team of highly motivated executives in the management of the company. She was also recently featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Marsha is also very active in the community.  She is on the Board of the United Way/Community Chest, a member of the Board of Governors of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Executive Board for the Boy Scouts of America, and also serves on the Board of Directors at the Children at the Crossroads Foundation. In addition, she serves on the Planning Commission Board of the Town of Cicero; is a board member of the Cicero Education Committee; is the Town of Cicero Children’s Safety Town Director; and was a founding member of the Adopt a Homeroom Program in the Town of Cicero.  Marsha is a Commissioner on the Cook County Commission of Women’s Issues, and is a member of The Chicago Network, The Committee 200, and the National Women’s Business Council in Washington, DC.  United Scrap Metal is also an active partner with Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Marsha has been featured in the media across the United States.  Publications such as USA Today, Nation’s Business, Pink Magazine, Fortune Small Business, New York Times, Waste News, Modern Metals, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Worth Magazine and Womenswire.com have honored her with profile stories.  Ms. Serlin has also made TV appearances on CBS, CNN, CNBC, and has participated in radio shows through the years.

The Woman of Vision Award recognizes and honors groundbreaking, inspirational women who have made a difference in the professional world and community at large. More than 100 top female business and professional leaders attended last year’s Woman of Vision Award Luncheon, which honored Cheryle Jackson, president and CEO of the Chicago Urban League.
